E. GORDON 'KOLBE' Red Blend

Regular price $35.00 Sale

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • Stunning Red Blend of Grenache 42%, Syrah 42%, Zinfandel 14% and Petite Sirah 2%
  • Artisan, small barrel production, sustainably farmed
  • Anything Grenache based, we are in for big and bold

WINEMAKER: Eric Gordon: Punk Dog Wines, Dry Creek Vineyards, Ravenswood, Sattui, Provenance

WHAT WE TASTED: A heady ripe cherry, black plum and spice on the nose - from Grenache and Zin. Smoky, dark fruit on the palate courtesy of Petite Sirah. Big and bold from Syrah, with elegant velvety vanilla finish. Very special wine.

AVA DESIGNATED: North Coast

WHAT WE PAIRED:

  • Beef cheeks and kimchi fried rice with fresh egg, over medium
  • Spicy Asian BBQ ribs with mango chutney
  • Indian and Middle Eastern dishes pair well

PERSONALITY: Eric was a biologist and zoologist before turning to wine - thus his love of animals and science. The label is from an early line drawing of a vulture. He learned to make wine with his grandfather on his farm in Sonoma County and continues to learn as he works with great winemakers such as Philippe Melka who use Eric's custom crush facility.

TECHNICAL:

  • Alcohol 14.5%
  • Grenache aged a year longer than other varieties for a smoother ride
  • Barrel aged 24 months in 30% new French Oak
