International Malbec day

Malbec World Day is celebrated April 17. We pay homage to the noble grape most associated with putting Argentina on the map, but came from France, and is a tradition of Bordeaux blends. Big California ones too!

For Argentina, president Domingo Faustino Sarmiento officially made it his mission to transform Argentina's wine industry. Back on April 17, 1853, he tasked Michel Aimé Pouget, a French soil expert, to bring over new vines. Among the selection was Malbec.

The name, "Malbec World Day", translates from the Spanish "Día Mundial del Malbec" meaning "Malbec throughout the world". Somehow the name stuck though most just end up calling it "World Malbec Day", or "Malbec Mondo" for those who like the alliteration.

Malbec Mondo works for us so without further ado, we present our stellar single varietal pick and outstanding blends so you can toast the goodness when new world meets old in the hands of a fine winemaker.
