Wildcrafted Wines Tip of the Month
To protect labels from getting soaked in the ice bucket and losing their appeal do this: Simply wrap the bottle covering the label with plastic wrap before dunking it in. The label can be seen clearly and stay dry!
Zinfandel - It’s Place in the World, And on Your Table
Zinfandel’s Ancient Roots
Zinfandel is one of the oldest grape varieties on the planet. Research shows a lineage of this grape in the Caucasus region at about 6000 BC.
Primitivo is genetically identical to Zinfandel, however, the Italians were certain this was not one of their traditional varietals.
Croatia has several indigenous varietals related to Zinfandel in their grape lineage though most were lost in the late 19th century. In 2001 DNA fingerprinting found 9 remaining vines in Croatia confirming these are the ancient varietals with the same structure as Zin grown in California today.
It’s the 3rd leading winegrape variety in Cali as of 2016…behind Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon respectively.
Zin FUN FACTS:
